I caught up with former Cardiff, Arsenal and QPR defender Matthew Connolly, as we discuss Matt's time at the club as well as his thoughts on The Bluebirds currently.
What is your favourite memory at Cardiff?
I think I would say my favourite memory would be the promotion season the year I signed or specific game would be the 3-2 home win against Man City. Atmosphere was unbelievable that day.
You were one of a few players a part of both Promotion squads, which one was more special to you?
The first promotion was more special to me I think. Played most of the games and the club had come close in previous years but weren’t able to get it done so to join and help get club to Premier League was definitely special. Think was a hard time for the fans off the pitch as we were in red so was pleasing to give something back.
You were at the club during some pretty dark days, but also some of the best - How do you look back on your time at the club?
I look back at my time at the club very fondly. I had a great time in the city it’s a lovely place and the fans were always great to me. It’s a brilliant club to play for and I always enjoy coming back.
Who was your favourite manager to work under at Cardiff?
I think all the managers had different qualities I enjoy but it would be between Malky/Warnock. Both different in their own ways but both got great teams together and win games.
Cardiff appear to be on back on track at the moment - What have you made of Erol Bulut?
To be honest I didn't see much of Cardiff last season but speaking to some of the boys they say there is definitely a buzz around the club and they are enjoying it again. I always look out for the results. It’s also good to see some of the young boys getting minutes as think we lacked that in my time.
Who’s one player you think Cardiff should target this summer?
They have made a few good signings already this summer. They should target players who have good Championship experience and I think that’s vital for success.
Is there anyone at Cardiff at the moment that excites you?
I think the Willock signing is an exciting one hoping he hits the ground running.
What do you have planned for the future?
My plans for the future are spending as much time with my family, seeing different parts of the world and maybe some coaching along the way.
Big thank you to Matt for taking time to answer the questions: And good luck in your future adventures!
