We caught up with BBC radio and television presenter Jason Mohammad as we discuss Jason's journey supporting the club, and his hopes for the season ahead.
What’s your first memory watching Cardiff?
My first game was on May 17th 1982, against Luton Town. We had to win to stay up, but sadly, I suppose this prepared me for a life as a long suffering Cardiff City fan we lost 3-2 and were relegated. I remember being captivated by Ninian Park and the floodlights for an evening kickoff. And from that moment on, I was hooked.
What moment made you fall in love with the club?
I think it was two things - the buzz of Ninian Park - I didn’t miss a home game in the promotion season of 1982/83 and probably my first away trip to Pompey that season when it felt like the whole of Cardiff filled their away end!
What’s been your favourite goal since supporting the club?
There have been so many contenders but Ollie Tanner’s goal against the Jacks on the night before my 50th Birthday was a dream! Then an Instagram happy birthday message from Aaron Ramsey the morning after! What a birthday man!
Who’s the best player you’ve seen in a Cardiff shirt and why?
I’m gonna go with Rambo as we have had so many superb players - but the fact that Aaron is homegrown - a Bluebird through and through & came back to us nicks it for me.
Erol Bulut has recently signed a new deal with the club - are you happy with him in charge?
I’m delighted he’s with us. I had a long chat with him at the Player of the year Awards and he spent a lot of time to talk to me and my son Max. He clearly gets us and brought us that famous win over the Jacks and wins against Bristol City as well. And I love his honesty in the press conferences too.
What are your thoughts ahead of the season ahead?
I think with a good start - a fit Rambo and Callum O’Dowda - we can push for the top six. It’s all about momentum - and with some new signings and a little bit of luck, I think we should push for the top six.
Who do you think Cardiff’s one to watch will be?
Big season incoming for Cian Ashford. What a talent. I’d like to see him get more game time. Top lad. Had a great chat with him at the end of last season. Young lad with big dreams - let him thrive!
Who’s your dream realistic signing this summer?
Well I heard Mohamed Salah may be on the move - so Cardiff would be great for you Mo! No - in all seriousness, I’d love to have Sory Kaba back - how cool would that be?
Big thank you to Jase for taking time to answer the questions; look forward to seeing Salah in Blue.
