Cardiff City have confirmed the loan signing of Manchester City defender Josh Wilson-Esbrand.
Wilson-Esbrand spent his youth days at West Ham, until he made the switch to Manchester City in 2019. The fullback made his full City debut in 2021, as he featured in a 6-1 win over Wycombe in a Carabao Cup game.
Wilson-Esbrand built on that, and in the next season he went onto make two Champions League appearances against Sevilla and Copenhagen, before joining Coventry City on loan in January for the remainder of the 22/23 season.
Josh would go onto make fourteen appearances for the Sky Blues, and was predominantly used as a left midfielder. Wilson-Esbrand was apart of the Coventry squad that reached the play-off finals last season, however were agonisingly beaten by Luton.
After impressing at Coventry, Wilson-Esbrand joined Stade de Reims on loan. He saw minutes at left-back, left wing and also midfield, he also scored his first senior goal against Lorient. After a decent start in France, Wilson-Esbrand made his debut for England's U21 side in November.
Minutes at Les rouges et blancs dried up, which saw Manchester City recall the 21 year-old. Wilson-Esbrand will now link up with The Bluebirds for the remainder of the 23/24 season.
An exciting signing who has a lot to prove! Offers us depth in a position we really needed.
