Cardiff City are thought to be keen on freein gup a few loan spaces this window, in order to use the loan market in the current January Transfer Window. It's also thought The Bluebirds are keen to bring back one or two of the players who currently find themselves out on loan from Cardiff.
Cardiff currently have five loanees which is the maximum a Championship team can have in a matchday squad. The Bluebirds looking to free up loan places means it's likely a few of the five will return to their parent clubs in the near future, but who is the most likely?
Ike Ugbo:
Ugbo's future is very much up in the air. Due to a hamstring injury, Ugbo hasn't featured since Hull City on the 16th of December. Ugbo returned to the matchday squad on New Year's Day against QPR, however, was not involved against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup just six days later. It's well known Cardiff are in the market for a new striker, which could lead to Ike Ugbo returning to Ligue 2 outfit Troyes.
Karlan Grant:
After an impressive run, Bluebirds supporters were worried at the prospect of losing Grant, however, it has been revealed that West Brom do not hold the option to recall the forward. Grant has four goals and two assists to his name and will be staying put until the end of the season at least.
Josh Bowler:
Another that probably looks unlikey to leave, this was indicated as he was involved in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday. Bowler has had a mixed spell so far, showing his great on the ball ability in games, however he has also drifted out of games and not really been seen. I think Nottingham Forest will be satisfied with the minutes he's played, therefore I see Bowler staying put.
Alex Runarsson:
Alex Runarsson has been absent from the matchday squad since Plymouth on Boxing Day due to a suspected head injury. However, Cardiff's recent link with Danny Ward has definitely thrown a spanner in the works. These links have led to discussion over whether Cardiff will cut Runarsson's underwhelming spell in South Wales short. So, another's future who is up in the air.
Jonathan Panzo:
Jonathan Panzo is set to return to Nottingham Forest. After just 180 minutes of football, this comes as surprise to no one. If I'm being honest I'm hugely disappointed, as I believe Panzo should've come into the side a long time ago, I'm sure he will have a good career and we will look back in a few years and wonder what if, just the world of football, anyway I wish him the best for his next move.
That's the list of loaness brought in covered, but what about those who have been loaned out by The Bluebirds, could any of them return?
Oliver Denham:
Denham is yet to make his debut in the league for The Tangerines. The feeling between both Dundee United and Cardiff fans is that Denham needs to return to Cardiff and head back out on loan to the EFL. However, there has been no indication on what Denham's future may hold. Due to Denham being out of contract at the end of the season, it's important he gets game time.
Tom Davies:
Davies' minutes have mainly come for Kilmarnock's B team. However, Davies does also have four SPFL games to his name, so all around I'm content with the progress made by Davies in the first half of the season. I expect him to probably stay at Kilmarnock as the loan is doing him good at the moment.
Eli King:
Eli King is set to return to Cardiff after impressing in the first half of the season with League Two outfit Morecambe. The Shrimps' manager admitted there is "no doubt" Kingy returns to South Wales. King has often been operarted in a midfielder pair just in front of the back four and has been a standout at Morecambe this season.
Isaak Davies:
Davies has enjoyed a decent spell at struggling Kortrijk. Davies is De Kerels top scorer this term with four goals, two of them coming against big Belgian sides Club Brugge and Standard Liege. Some have called for Davies to return, however, I expect him to see out his loan after he recently expressed how much he's enjoyed his time in Belgium.
Joel Bagan:
With Jamilu Collins expected to be selected for AFCON, it looked as if Bagan was set to return, however, Collins was not seclected, so Bagan's future is slightly up in the air. The 22 year-old has made sixteen appearences in his time in Belgium even netting a goal. Difficult to predict what will happen with Bagan, especially with O'Dowda expected to return soon, I imagine we'll get a more definitive answer in the next week or so.
Sheyi Ojo:
I suspect we've seen the last of Sheyi Ojo in a Cardiff City shirt. Therefore, I don't really see a world where he returns to The Bluebirds this month. Ojo has made fifteen appearences for De Kerels and has netted one goal and set up one as well.
Rohan Luthra:
A bit of news that went under the radar, but Rohan Luthra returned to Cardiff in November. Luthra made sixteen appearences for Slough Town before his return.
Chanka Zimba:
Zimba's future is up in the air at the moment. His original loan only ran until January, however, Maidenhead are pleased with his progress and are keen to keep him for the remainder of the season. Zimba has made fifteen appearences and netted four goals. Zimba may end up returning, however it's unknown at this stage.
Wrap Up:
That concludes what could happen with the loanees this month? As for the loaness brought in for other clubs, it looks like there could be a fair bit of movement.
As for those loaned out by The Bluebirds, it looks like the majority will be staying put at their current clubs.
