Cardiff City are knocked out of the FA Cup as they lose 4-0 to a clinical Sheffield Wednesday side.

Callum Robinson in action against Sheffield Wednesday.

Cardiff were behind after a minute as an effort from Josh Windass from the edge of the box left Alnwick rooted to the spot, and Wednesday had the lead.

Some good work from Rinomhota down the left saw him fouled in the Wednesday box, Wintle stepped up and was denied by Dawson in The Owls net. From the rsulting corner, the ball fell to Kion Etete who was also fouled in the box, this time Callum Robinson stepped up, he was also denied by Cameron Dawson.

Colwill and Bowler both had half chances, but couldn't make the most of them. Wednesday came forward and Valentin was denied from distance through a brilliant save from Jak Alnwick. From the resulting corrner, Ihiekwe headed towards goal before a touch off Romaine Sawyers saw the ball land in his own net.

A third came less than a minute later through a brilliant long range effort from Liam Palmer. Cardiff should've had one back before the half time whistle, however, Colwill and Etete were both denied by the unbeatable Cameron Dawson.

Colwill, Robinson and Tanner all had efforts go wide or over the Wednesday goal. Cardiff should've had a goal back in the 66th minute, however Robinson headed over from six yards out. Ashford also squandered a big chance twelve minutes later.

A Wilks fourth late on sealed the deal to knock The Bluebirds out of the FA Cup.

Player Ratings:

Jak Alnwick (5) - Flaps for the second and should really be doing better. Not much he can do about the other three, maybe the fourth if you're being over critical. Distribution was ok.

Xavier Benjamin (4) - Didn't get near Gassama in the first half. I sympathise with him as he was playing out of position, but defensively he looked poor, and also on the ball. Loan move needed, needs to be playing more physical football week in week out.

Ryan Wintle (5) - Hard to rate as he's far from a centre half, but for some reason palyed there. Not the best penalty. Shied away from the physical battle with Fletcher. Ok on the ball.

Perry Ng (6) - Overall wasn't too bad. Defensively was ok, and going forward was ok. Squandered one or two half chances.

Ollie Tanner (6.5) - Tried his hardest and that's all you can ask. A threat going forward, quite poor defensively, but it's what you'd expect as he's far from a fullback.

Andy Rinomhota (7) MOTM - One of the only players that took their opportunity. An energetic performance that has definitely put him in the shop window, as he looks set to depart. Was good in midfield, put in a shift at right-back, overall pretty solid.

Romaine Sawyers (6) - Obviously an unfortunate own goal. Other than that, thought it was a relatively tidy performance, a couple of good passes that got us in good areas. Looks like he's slowing down slightly.

Josh Bowler (6) - Tried to make things happen down the right, lack of end product letting him down. Worked fairly well with Rinomhota.

Rubin Colwill (6) - Tried his hardest, but things just didn't go his way. Must've had at least six shots, just didn't fall for him. Got in the right spaces.

Kion Etete (5) - Clear as day he wasn't really up for it. Started fairly bright, but quickly became anonymous.

Callum Robinson (3) - Arguably should've had himself a hatrick. Serious wake up call needed.

Subs:

Joel Colwill (6) - A tidy outing from Colwill. Kept it simple but his work was effective. Only slight problem is he looked back before forward quite often, but he'll play with more freedom once he builds confidence.

Cian Ashford (5) - Some tidy pieces and some nice ball control. However, should've scored.

Kieron Evans (6) - Brought a bit of energy when he came on, some nice work down the left, came on a bit too late to make a massive impact.

Cameron Antwi (6) - Another who looked tidy. On for a brief time, but definitely showed what he was bout, some nice footwork.

Summary:

A harsh score line for the performance from the team. Wake up call needed for some, but some took their opportunity. Full focus on the league now.

Next time out, Cardiff host Leeds United in the Championship.
