Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of Yokohama F. Marinos defender Ryotaro Tsunoda. The 24 year-old defender will now join KV Kortrijk for the remainder of the season.
The former Japan U20 international departs Marions after two years. The left footed defender has impressed in Japan and has been praied for his versatility.
Tsunoda spent his youth career at Maebashi Ikuei and Tsukuba University. The six foot defender then made his first professional move to Yokohama F. Marinos in July 2021.
The defender has spent two years at Tricolor and has played fifty-one times for the Japanese side. Tsunoda has been deployed at both centre-back and left-back in his two years at The Marinos.
In Yokohoma F. Marinos' most recent campaign Tsunoda made sixteen appearences under ex Liverpool and Leeds forward Harry Kewell, as they finished second in the J-League.
The defender is known for his progressive style and is comfortable on the ball. Tsunoda holds an impressive ability to play balls into the final third. With a 72.7% tackling win rate, he's evidently strong in the tackle as well. He's also got one goal to his name.
