Cardiff City confirmed the appointment of Brian Barry-Murphy on Monday evening. A lot has been made of Barry-Murphy's contacts to the biggest clubs in the country, and some of the previous talents the new City Head Coach has previously worked with. With this in mind, let's have a look at seven players that Barry-Murphy could target this summer.
Micah Hamilton (21)

Club: Middlesbrough
Position: Winger
Market Value: £2.7M
Hamilton is a graduate of the Manchester City Academy, where he worked with Brian Barry-Murphy. Since departing City, Hamilton has struggled to make a major impact at Middlesbrough or at Stockport in a recent loan spell, but a reunion with Barry-Murphy could be ideal for the winger. Hamilton is a dynamic attacking talent who combines speed, skill, and creativity with a mature sense of composure. Whilst not yet being able to prove it at first team level, there's plenty more to come from the young winger.
Tomas Galvez (20)

Club: Manchester City
Position: Left-Back
Market Value: £341k
Galvez is another product of the Manchester City Academy setup, and another that was trusted by Brian Barry-Murphy during his spell at the club. The 20 year-old had a fairly decent spell at Cambuur in the Eerste Divisie in the second half of last season, and will be looking to build on that this season. Galvez is a modern, attack-minded left-back who excels at combining overlapping runs, technical comfort, and one-on-one defending. The Finnish international was pivotal in Barry-Murphy's EDS side, and I imagine Barry-Murphy would be keen to reunite with the fullback.
Adedire Mebude (21)

Club: K.V.C. Westerlo
Position: Winger
Market Value: £853k
Similar to Micah Hamilton in many ways, Mebude dominated in Barry-Murphy's EDS side but has failed to really make that step up so far to first team football. Mebude has had fairly uninspiring loan spells at the likes of Bristol City and Hamburg SV in the recent seasons, but there's no denying the talent is there. Mebude is a powerful forward who uses his rare blend of blistering pace, physical strength, and two-footed finishing to dominate in the final third. This could be beneficial for both parties, with Mebude ticking a lot of what Cardiff are desperate for in the final third, and perhaps a drop down in division could be the best thing to kick-start the winger’s career.
Mahamadou Susoho (20)

Club: Manchester City
Position: Defensive Midfielder
Market Value: £1M
The last Man City related one, I promise. Susoho is another who was used fairly frequently by Brian Barry-Murphy for the EDS side. The Spanish midfielder has quite a staggered last season on loan at Peterborough in League One, making sixteen appearances but missed a large part of the season with a serious injury. Susoho is a commanding, ball-winning defensive midfielder who excels at anchoring the midfield with tenacity, tactical intelligence, and technical composure, and could slot in nicely into City's already talented midfield roster.
Michael Golding (19)

Club: Leicester City
Position: Midfielder
Market Value: £1.7M
Having just spent six months at Leicester, Barry-Murphy will be aware of the brightest talents at The Foxes, one of which is Michael Golding, and after playing just one minute after a £5M move from Chelsea last summer, it's fair to say the 19 year-old will be after game time, something he might not quite be ready for at Leicester City. Golding is an astute, creative central midfielder renowned for his vision and technical finesse. Comfortable playing as a deep‑lying No. 8 or a creative No. 10, he excels in tight spaces with deft close control, sharp one‑twos, and an ability to break lines with incisive passes. This could be a perfect place to get the ball rolling for the teenager.
Will Alves (20)

Club: Leicester City
Position: Winger
Market Value: £341K
A familiar name to City supporters. Alves caught the eye at times in his six month spell at The Bluebirds last season. The 20 year-old would've briefly worked with Barry-Murphy at Leicester before joining City in January on loan. Alves is a dynamic, direct winger who thrives in attacking scenarios with pace, power, and flair. This could be a perfect opportunity for Alves to pick up where he left off in the Welsh Capital, and develop under a far better coaching setup than he was previously working with.
Genesis Antwi (18)

Club: Chelsea
Position: Right-Back
Market Value: £299K
Brian Barry-Murphy has made a lot of his relationship with Enzo Maresca in various interviews he's done, so this is where that link comes from. Genesis Antwi impressed Maresca, leading to two appearances in a successful Confrence League campaign last season for the Swede. Antwi is an athletic full-back renowned for his physicality, speed, and tenacious one‑on‑one defending. More of a rogue shout, but one that could benefit from more exposure to first team football, and one Barry-Murphy would certainly improve.
Conclusion:
A real mixed bags, but some real exciting ones that Barry-Murphy could possibly open the door too, and to add on an already array of talented young players in the Cardiff City ranks.
