Cardiff City have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Alex Robertson from Manchester City.
Alex Robertson was born in Scotland, however grew up in Australia. Robertson took an interest in football and played for a handful of sides in Australia as a child before moving to England in 2015, in order to facilitate a move to the academy of Manchester United.
Robertson remained with The Red Devils for two years, before making the move to Manchester City in 2017. The midfielder began to establish himself at youth level and was considered a top talent.
This would lead to Robertson becoming a regular in first team training, citing Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho as a mentor. Following the setup, Robertson found himself called up to England's U18's side.
In 2021, Robertson made the move to Scottish side Ross County on loan under ex-Cardiff boss Malky Mackay. The midfielder made just three appearances in the first half of the season before returning to City in January 2022.
Robertson would go on to spend the 22/23 with Manchester City. In March 2023, Robertson made his senior debut for Australia. The midfielder made his international debut against Ecuador.
The Australian midfielder then joined Portsmouth for the 23/24 season. Robertson excelled at Pompey. Often praised for his excellent passing and his exceptional ability on the ball, Robertson was key in Pompey's excellent start to the season.
Robertson was enjoying the best season of his career to date, but unfortunately in January 2024, The 21 year-old tore his hamstring, ruling him out for the remainder of the 23/24 season.
The midfielder now links up with The Bluebirds despite interest from Pompey, as Robertson signs a four year deal with the club.
An impressive pickup and adds something we don't necessarily have in the midfield department!
