Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of Nathaniel Phillips on loan for the remainder of the season.
Born in Bolton, Phillips spent his youth days at his hometown side Bolton Wanderers, however left The Trotters in 2016, he would go on to join Liverpool.
Phillips began training with The Reds' first team in the summer of 2018, and was now a regular for Liverpool's reserve side. In the summer 2019, Phillips would make the first loan move of his Liverpool career, as he joined German side Stuttgart.
Phillips impressed in the first half of the season in the 2. Bundesliga, leading to a recall from Liverpool following a flurry of defensive injuries for The Reds. This saw Nat Phillips make his Liverpool debut in January 2020, against Mersyside rivals Everton. Phillips then returned to Stuttgart on loan for the remainder of the season.
In October 2021, Phillips made his league debut for Liverpool in a win over West Ham. Phillips made his Champions League debut a few months later, putting in a Man of the Match performance against RB Leipzig. Phillips scored his first Reds goal in the May of that season. Phillips ended the season with seventeen Premier League appearences.
Following Liverpool's heavy investment in the defensive positions in the summer of 2021, Phillips didn't see a minute of league action between the start of the season and January. In search of game time, Phillips joined Bournemouth on loan in January 2022. Phillips would help guide The Cherries to promotion as he made seventeen appearences in his six months at The Cherries.
A frustrating 22/23 season saw Phillips make just five appearences in all competitions. Ahead of the 23/24 season, Phillips linked up with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic. An impressive bit of business and a position that definitely needed depth, a reliable option that should be able to make a big impact in his six months here!
