Cardiff City were linked with three new names in the second week of the January Transfer Window. Here's a breakdown of those three.
Ronael Pierre-Gabriel:
Cardiff City and Toronto FC are reportedly in the race for FC Nantes defender Ronael Pierre-Gabriel. The 24 year-old is capable of playing both at right-back and centre-back. Pierre-Gabriel has been praised for his tackling and ball interception ability during his career so far. Given the two clubs history, I'm not sure how much either party will favour this move, especially with others lurking around.
Ryotaro Tsunoda:
This one is actually a done deal, as confirmed by Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut. The Japanese defender will immediately join The Bluebirds' sister club KV Kortrijk in Belgium on loan. The 24 year-old is capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back. Tsunoda's obvious main attribute is his ability on the ball and his great passing range. He's also strong in the tackle and wins the majoirty of his individual duels.
John McAtee:
Cardiff City, Ipswich and Sunderland are all reportedly battling for the signature of John McAtee. The 24 year-old is on loan at League One side Barnsley from Premier League Luton. McAtee has six goals and three assists in twenty games so far. Predominantly a striker however is capable of playing just behind the striker as a ten as well. McAtee has impressed with key passes and his clinical touch in the final third, however has also been praised for his defensive contributions and is his work rate during his time at The Tykes.
Conclusion:
In a week Cardiff needed to make things happen, they failed to do so. They need to make things happen on the market this week as they've already missed out on a key target or two.
Especially after Bulut voiced his frustrations following his side's 3-0 loss to Leeds on the weekend, the board need to give him the backing he's earned and deserves.
Deals need to get finalised before Plymouth.
