Following the departures of Callum O'Dowda and Jamilu Collins, Cardiff City will be back in the market for a left-back this summer. With that in mind, here are five options I believe City should consider this summer.

Luke Chambers (21)

Club: Liverpool

Fee: Loan

Chambers is composed on the ball, picks smart passes, and supports attacks with well-timed overlaps and accurate crosses. Defensively, he’s positionally solid and reads the game well, preferring interceptions over risky tackles. Not overly quick, but has good stamina and awareness, making him reliable at both ends of the pitch. The young fullback has experience at this level, and could offer a steady option for City in the fullback area for BBM's side.

Cohen Bramall (29)

Fee: Free Transfer

An experienced EFL fullback that's available for free this summer. Bramall is a dynamic, pace-driven left-back known for his explosive speed and attacking intent. He thrives in systems that rely on full-backs to provide width, often making overlapping runs and delivering crosses into the box.  Bramall relies on his pace and work rate to recover and handle 1v1s, though his positioning and defensive discipline can be inconsistent. A player at a different stage in his career, but could help the younger fullbacks.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand (22)

Fee: Loan

Josh Wilson-Esbrand had a satisfactory loan at The Bluebirds eighteen months ago, but struggled at Stoke last season. At twenty-two, a drop down a level could be hugely beneficial for his career, and Cardiff with Brian Barry-Murphy would make a lot of sense. Wilson-Esbrand is an attack-minded left-back known for his pace, dribbling, and composure on the ball. He excels in wide attacking roles with strong crossing and confident 1v1 ability. Defensively, he needs to improve his positioning and fitness to reach top-level consistency.

Jayden Meghoma (19)

Meghoma is one of the most exciting left-backs in the country. The young fullback had a decent spell at Preston last season, and had a strong England U19 Euro campaign. Meghoma is a quick, attack-minded left-back with strong dribbling and accurate crossing. He’s defensively solid, using his pace for recovery and 1v1 defending. Comfortable as a full-back or wing-back, he shows maturity and composure in possession. The England U19 international could offer an energetic option for City.

Tomas Galvez (20)

Galvez will have a connection with Brian Barry-Murphy from his days at Manchester City, and easily slots into what Cardiff City also need. Galvez is a modern, attack-minded left-back who excels at combining overlapping runs, technical comfort, and one-on-one defending. The Finnish international was pivotal in Barry-Murphy's EDS side, and I imagine Barry-Murphy would be keen to reunite with the fullback.

Summary:

Cardiff need energy from a fullback that can be high and wide and support the winger, these five options all fit that, with a couple being BBM-proven as well. It feels, quality wise, Cardiff will probably have to look in the loan market.
