Cardiff City have been beaten 5-2 by already relegated Rotherham United this afternoon.
Rotherham were the side to break the deadlock through Jordan Hugill after twenty-five minutes.
The Bluebirds responded with half chances from Ashford, Wintle, Bowler and Diedhiou, but it was Nat Phillips that drew The Bluebirds level with a back post header.
The Millers were back ahead before half-time as Cardiff were slow to clear their lines, and Tom Eaves nicked in to put his side back in front.
City had an encouraging start to the second half which payed off, as Ollie Tanner powered home from the edge of the area to get Cardiff back level.
A quick fire triple from Tom Eaves, Sam Nombe and Jordan Hugill saw The Millers secure all three points.
Player Ratings:
Ethan Horvath (5) - Could probably do better for one or two of the goals. Didn’t have a great deal of the ball at his feet.
Mahlon Romeo (4) - Rotherham were targeting Romeo before he was substituted, which only tells you one thing. Really slow to react and lost the ball in daft areas and situations. Poor showing.
Dimitrios Goutas (4.5) - Just bullied by Eaves and Hugill. Didn’t have a sniff in the air or on the floor. Some decent pieces on the ball.
Nat Phillips (5) - Nice that Nat got a goal before leaving. Other than that, pretty similar to Goutas. Did put up a fight but ultimately struggled. At fault for the fifth, as well.
Ollie Tanner (8) MOTM - One of the few positives. Tanner was excellent and had a goal and assist to show for it. Tanner was also good defensively, something we’ve not seen much from him before. Really encouraging.
Ryan Wintle (5) - Just slow and sloppy. Most passes of any player on the pitch and didn’t have a great deal to show for it, often choosing the negative option. Probably should’ve scored as well.
Manolis Siopis (5.5) - Sloppy on the ball as well. Only betters Wintle as Sio did some decent defensive pieces.
David Turnbull (6) - For every good thing Turnbull did, he did something bad. Some really good deliveries and made a handful of decent chances. Sloppy and slow at times.
Josh Bowler (5) - Slow and negative. Bramall was good for Rotherham but was shown too much respect by Bowler. Unlucky not to score.
Cian Ashford (7) - Showed a good turn of pace and was direct. Awarded with his first assist as well. Decision making could be slightly better in the final third, but that will come with more experience.
Famara Diedhiou (5) - Was competitive but didn’t win a great deal, and didn’t really offer any real threat. Lacked the pace to hurt Rotherham.
Subs:
Raheem Conte (6.5) - Direct again and showed quality. Not afraid to take on a man and it almost payed off. Needs more game time next season.
Rubin Colwill (6) - Looked to make things happen, unfortunately nothing came off.
Callum O’Dowda (N/A) - Failed to make any real impact.
Joel Colwill (N/A) - Came on too late.
Mark McGuinness (N/A) - Came on too late.
Summary:
Not an ideal way to end the season, but it doesn’t take away from the huge progress from last season and lots to look forward to next season.
