A game where some may accuse Cardiff of not finishing the game off sooner - a late penalty gives the illusion of a comprehensive away victory!

City took the lead in the seventeenth minute through Perry Ng. The fullback lashed home from a tight angle via a deflection off the Wigan defender.
Christian Saydee had an excellent chance for the hosts to bring the game level just before the break, but the forward was denied by Nathan Trott from close range.
The second half saw very little action until Morgan Fox yanked Yousef Salech down six yards from goal, seeing himself sent off and earning City their first penalty of the season. Salech dispatched to earn City another three points on the road.
Player Ratings:
Nathan Trott (7) - Big save to deny Saydee in the first half. Not troubled beyond that, recycled the ball well.
Perry Ng (8) - A Ng of old performance. Looked to move the ball forward, and how many times have we seen the give and go inside the area from him? Recovered the ball well, with not a huge amount required defensively.
Gabriel Osho (8) MOTM - A rush of blood to the head last week didn’t impact his performance today. Calm and collected, his extra pace negating any risk to Trott.
Calum Chambers (7) - Solid performance from Chambers, a couple of good games in a row for him now and hopefully he can build on that.
Joel Bagan (7) - Mr Consistent at it again. Linked up well with Rubin and Ashford, as well as Willock.
Ryan Wintle (8) - Kept the game ticking over nicely, and got his attacking reward late on threading the pass to open Wigan up in the build up to the penalty. Certainly one of his stronger games for the club.
Joel Colwill (6) - Started really lively, however faded as the first half wore on before eventually being replaced by Turnbull in the 74th minute.
Rubin Colwill (7) - Not one of Rubin’s most attractive performances, but certainly effective. Threaded passes to Ashford on a number of occasions in the first half, as well as great link up play with Ng for the first goal.
Isaak Davies (5) - Safe to say Hungbo did a job on Isaak today. Got on the ball regularly in the first half, but couldn’t beat his man. Replaced by Willock shortly after the hour mark.
Cian Ashford (7) - Excellent runs and tenacity in the first half. Second performance in a week showing that he’s far more effective on the left than right. Switched over to the right when Willock was brought on, and did a job on Hungbo defensively, who looked the most threatening Wigan player.
Callum Robinson (6) - Possibly a little unlucky today. A couple of excellent runs in behind where the pass was just a little too heavy for him to get on the end of it. Lasted an hour.
Subs:
Yousef Salech (6.5) - Didn’t really get into the game, however nearly managed to get on the end of a Bagan low cross inside the 6 yard box. An identical scenario late on saw him dragged down, converting the penalty coolly.
Chris Willock (6) - One who suffered from the lethargic second half approach. Beat his man a couple of times to put crosses into the box. Can’t be marked up at all due to the yellow card for time wasting, followed by a foul throw.
David Turnbull (6) - A rather uneventful game for Turnbull. Can’t really mark him up or down.
Dylan Lawlor (7) - Replaced Chambers with 15 minutes to go and picked up where he left off. Calm performance at a time where Wigan may have looked to make inroads into the game.
Summary:
A routine win on the road at a difficult place to go, a great bounce back from our last league outing!
