Cardiff City are back on the road as they travel to the Pirelli Stadium to face Gary Bowyer's Burton Albion.

The Opposition:

Despite The Brewers' bright record against the top sides in League One, Burton have largely struggled to build momentum, seeing them languish near the bottom of the division.

Gary Bowyer’s teams are typically compact, hard-working, and defensively disciplined, prioritising shape and organisation over expansive play. In possession, he often favours direct, pragmatic football with quick transitions and set-pieces as key attacking outlets.

A victory for Burton could see Gary Bowyer's side move as high as sixteenth in the table.

The Bluebirds:

City come into this one on the back of a 4-0 thumping of Barnsley. Perry Ng and Chris Willock netted in the first half, before Omari Kellyman and another from Willock sealed a victory in the Welsh Capital.

City could unlock Bowyer’s compact shape by using patient, possession-based play with fluid rotations and overloads in wide areas to drag defenders out of position.

Opposition Player to Watch:

Jake Beesley celebrating.
Jake Beesley celebrating.

Jake Beesley has shone for The Brewers so far this season. Beesley is a physical, traditional number 9 who leads the line with aerial ability and strength, using his size to hold up play and get on the end of crosses while contributing with a decent goal return in League One. He isn’t the quickest or most technical forward but combines physical presence with workrate and a willingness to link play and press defenders.

The striker progressed through the ranks at Chesterfield. After a loan move to Shaw Lane, Beesley completed a permanent move to Salford City. Loans to Boston United, Bradford Park Avenue and Solihull Moors followed, before completing a permanent move to The Moors. After six months, Beesley completed a permanent move to Rochdale. After a successful spell at The Dale, the striker joined Blackpool. A three and a half year stint with The Seasiders followed, before joining Burton in the summer of 2025. The 29 year-old has netted nine and set up six so far this season.

Burton Albion were the first side to beat Cardiff City this season. The Bluebirds dominated in all departments, however The Brewers won it late on.

City had several close attempts, before Charlie Webster netted from close range to seal the victory for Burton.

Team News:

Cardiff City - Yousef Salech, Dylan Lawlor, Rubin Colwill and Eli King remain out injured for The Bluebirds.

Burton Albion - Finn Delap, Jason Sraha and Jasper Moon back in contention. Charlie Webster doubtful for the hosts.

CDM - Ryan Wintle

CM - David Turnbull

CAM - Omari Kellyman

Score Prediction:

Burton Albion 1-3 Cardiff City

A deceptively difficult game and it will pose its threats, but I'm hopeful City can pass and put Burton to the sword.
