What’s your football journey been to date?

I started at Cardiff City age seven and I’ve been there ever since with Cheltenham Town being my first spell away from the club.

What type of player would you describe yourself as?

I would describe myself as probably a box-to-box number 8 but I feel I can play anywhere in the middle.

You made your senior debut last season - describe how it felt stepping out for your boyhood club?

Yeah it was a dream come true, it is everyone’s goal starting out to hopefully one day play in the first team and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to do so.

You made your debut alongside your brother Rubin, how did that feel? How much help has he given you in your career?

That was my biggest dream was to play for Cardiff with my brother and having the chance to do that was a very proud moment for me and my family.

You made the move to Cheltenham in the summer, how did you feel ahead of that move?

I wasn’t sure what to expect as it was my first time being away from the club but I would say I was excited to find out what It was going to be like.

You scored a brace on your debut against Newport County and won the game in dramatic fashion, how did that feel?

I couldn’t have asked for a better start really my first professional goals and a great way to get going at Cheltenham.

You sit on eight goals in all competitions, what targets did you set before signing for Cheltenham?

I didn’t want to put too many targets and pressure on myself I just wanted to hopefully go out and play some football games.

Who’s had the biggest influence on your career?

I’d probably say my brother [Rubin Colwill] being a couple years older than me he’d already been through everything I was going through so he could give me tips and help me out.

Who’s the best player you’ve played with?

You’ll probably call me biased but I genuinely believe Rubin [Colwill] is the best player I’ve played with.

What’s main difference you’ve found between Academy and League Two football?

The main difference for me is games are not about development like in academy football it’s about getting three points and winning football games.

What are your long-term goals going forward?

I’d like to one day play with Cardiff City in the Premier League with my brother.

Big thanks to Joel for answering the questions and best of luck for the rest of the season!
