Cardiff City were beaten by fourth place Sunderland this afternoon.

Sunderland took an early lead through Eliezer Mayenda. City played a loose ball into midfield that was picked up by Patrick Roberts who fed the ball to Mayenda who slotted past Ethan Horvath.
Cardiff struck back through Isaak Davies just before half-time. Callum O'Dowda floated a ball towards Yousef Salech, Anthony Patterson came to claim the ball but spilled the ball to Isaak Davies who slotted home.
City almost took the lead just after half-time. A cross fell to Yousef Salech who had an effort saved by Patterson then tipped onto the post.
The hosts would regain the lead through defender Chris Mepham. After a well-worked set piece, the ball was played across the face of goal for Mepham to tap into an empty net, and secure all three points for Sunderland.
Player Ratings:
Ethan Horvath (6) - Not sure what he could do for either goal, perhaps command his area a little better. Distribution was okay.
Perry Ng (6) - Struggled early on against Mundle, but did grow into the game. Got forward well.
Dimitrios Goutas (6.5) - Made some real key interventions and read the game very well. Lost Mepham for the winner.
Joel Bagan (5.5) - Sloppy ball for the first goal, and struggled to really get going. Struggled defensively. Played a few nice passes.
Callum O'Dowda (5.5) - Another who struggled and was sloppy. Granted played a role in Davies' goal, really didn't offer a great deal offensively, and was poor defensively.
Calum Chambers (7) - Broke up play well again. Solid on the ball and progressed City up the pitch fairly well.
Sivert Mannsverk (6.5) - Started well and dictated things for City, carrying the ball and picking some nice passes, struggled a bit in the second half.
Isaak Davies (7.5) MOTM - Rewarded for his hard work throughout the game. Right place at the right time. Looked dangerous going forward and solid defensively.
Callum Robinson (6.5) - Had spells during the game, and looked sharp at times, going close from the edge of the box. Did well when was involved.
Rubin Colwill (7) - Seemed to be everywhere. Great ball to find Salech. Worked really hard off the ball, as well.
Yousef Salech (6) - Failed to really get involved. Went close with a good effort, but saw very little of goal otherwise.
Subs:
Will Alves (6) - Tidy cameo. Failed to really get involved.
Will Fish (6) - Couple of clearances when he came on.
Alex Robertson (6) - Same as Will Alves.
Cian Ashford (N/A)
Summary:
Making subs and changing system for the sake of it costs City again.
