Cardiff City look to build on derby success from the weekend as they host Huddersfield Town.
The Opposition:
The Terriers have had a campaign to forget so far. Huddersfield had a fairly good start under ex-city boss Neil Warnock, however a desicion was made to relieve him of the duties as Darren Moore was seen as a more long term gaffer for The Terriers. Things couldn't have gone worse for Moore, The 49 year-old was on the end of thrashings from Birmingham City, The Bluebirds, Leeds and Preston. Moore was then sacked with just a 13% win rate in his four months in charge. His successor was German coach Andre Breitenreiter, who has previously managed the likes of Hoffenheim, Schalke and Hannover. Breitenreiter has enjoyed a good start at the helm overseeing a win and a draw in his two games in charge.
Andre Breitenreiter is one of the new breed of German coaches who value a high-pressing, high pace, high energy counter-attacking style. The core offensive concept of Breitenreiter’s tactics is that possession is unnecessary if it is not building to something. Another important aspect which defines André Breitenreiter is his tactical fluidity, previous jobs have regularly seen him fluctuate between 4 or 5 different setups.
Huddersfield sit 21st heading into this one and are on the same points as the relegation places.
The Bluebirds:
Cardiff come into this on the back of a good derby win over Bristol City. The Bluebirds showed fight and controlled the game. City showed a great ability of playing out from the back, and looked to hurt The Robins out wide, however a goal inevitably came from a set piece.
It's likely to be a similar game to the weekend as Huddersfield are a more reserved side. The Bluebirds are likely to control possession and build from the back, something they proved they can do on the weekend. Cardiff will have to be wary of The Terriers quality on the wings and ability to play counter attacking football.
Team News:
Cardiff City - Karlan Grant is back available for The Bluebirds. Bulut hopeful of having Kion Etete fit. Ramsey, Alnwick and McGuinness out. Robinson played yestreday for the U21's, so he is also unavailable.
Huddersfield Town - Brodie Spencer and Bojan Radulovic back available. Yuta Nakayama out for the visitors. Harratt, Ruffels, Healey, Turton also out. Hogg suspended.
Preferred XI:
GK - Ethan Horvath
RB - Perry Ng
RCB - Dimitrios Goutas
LCB - Nat Phillips
LB - Josh Wilson-Esbrand
RDM - Manolis Siopis
LDM - Ryan Wintle
CAM - David Turnbull
RW - Ollie Tanner
LW - Karan Grant
ST - Yakou Meite
Prediction:
Cardiff City 2-0 Huddersfield Town
I would like to think Cardiff can build on success from the weekend. It won't be a rputine victory as The Terriers look to have turned under their new boss, however I believe will have too much quality in the end.
