Cardiff City remain in the Welsh Capital as they host Alex Revell's Stevenage.

The Opposition:

Stevenage have been one of the surprise packages in League One this season. Despite little being made of Boro before the start of the season, Alex Revell has his side sitting firmly in the automatic promotion mix ahead of 2026.

Revell puts emphasis on high-energy pressing, quick transitions, and vertical attacking play, aiming to win the ball early and attack at speed. Stevenage typically focus on intensity, forward runs, and exploiting space behind the defence rather than slow possession build-up.

Boro sit fifth ahead of this one and could move to third with a victory in the Welsh Capital.

The Bluebirds:

City come into this one on the back of a Boxing Day victory over Exeter City. A second half goal from Alex Robertson was enough to secure Brian Barry-Murphy's twentieth win as Cardiff boss.

The Bluebirds' patient and possession-heavy style will see them dominate the ball in this once. Boro's biggest threat that Cardiff will be forced to deal with is the directness of Revell's side, meaning they may be forced to rely on their experienced players.

Opposition Player to Watch:

Jamie Reid in action.
Jamie Reid in action.

Jamie Reid is Stevenage's top scorer, and has netted two in his last three. Reid plays as a hard-working striker who thrives on physical battles, pressing defenders, and leading the line with energy. His game focuses on intelligent movement in the box, hold-up play, and finishing chances rather than flashy skill.

The Northern Irish international began his career with Exeter City. Loans to Dorchester Town, Truro City and three loans to Torquay United followed, before Reid inevitably joined Torquay on a permanent deal. After three seasons at The Gulls, Reid joined Mansfield Town. Reid would spend just one season with The Stags, before joining Stevenage in 2021.

Last Meeting:

Stevenage 0-1 Cardiff City (2025)

Callum Robinson celebrating.

The last meeting should be fresh in the memory of Cardiff fans, as it was just nineteen days ago. Cardiff ran out winners with a late goal from Callum Robinson.

City dominated throughout, and as the game looked to have gotten away, Callum Robinson's half volley from the edge of the box flew into the bottom corner to secure a vital three points.

Team News:

Cardiff City - Nathan Trott is edging closer to a return. Rubin Colwill and Eli King remain out with injuries.

Stevenage - Dan Butler, Nick Freeman, Gassan Ahadme, Tyreece Simpson and Jordan Roberts out for the visitors.

Preferred XI:

GK - Matt Turner

RB - Ronan Kpakio

RCB - Dylan Lawlor

LCB - Calum Chambers

LB - Joel Bagan

CDM - Ryan Wintle

CM - Alex Robertson

CAM - Joel Colwill

RW - Omari Kellyman

LW - Chris Willock

ST - Callum Robinson

Score Prediction:

Cardiff City 1-1 Stevenage

Against such a good side away from home, it's bound to be a close affair, and one I can see ending all square.
