Cardiff City were beaten 2-0 by Middlesbrough this afternoon.

Aaron Ramsey in action against Middlesbrough.

There were little chances from both sides in the first half, with the only half chance coming from Finn Azaz, who had an effort on the edge of the box caught by Ethan Horvath.

Two minutes into the second half The Bluebirds thought they'd taken the lead, as Aaron Ramsey had an effort cleared off the line. Ramsey would have another chance not long later, and forced a great save from Seny Dieng.

Ethan Horvath was called into action again, as the American international made a brilliant save to deny Azaz once more. Boro scored from the resulting corner, as Matt Clarke found himself free in the box and glanced a header into the City net.

Middlesbrough doubled their lead as an effort from Aidan Morris took a flick off Aaron Ramsey, before beating Ethan Horvath. Boro left the Welsh Capital with all three points.

Player Ratings:

Ethan Horvath (6) - Made a couple of routine saves, as well as a really good one to deny Azaz. Don't feel Horvath can do much for either goal. Still looked shaky on the ball.

Perry Ng (5) - A couple of nice pieces going forward and defensively. However, sloppy at times on the ball, and lacking urgency and the killer pass to hurt Middlesbrough.

Calum Chambers (6) - Defended pretty well on a whole. Calm in and out of possession, needs to be quicker at times.

Jesper Daland (7.5) MOTM - Things appeared to fall apart when Daland went off injured. The Norwegian picked up where he left off last weekend, with a solid defensive showing and getting forward well. Hopefully not a serious injury.

Callum O'Dowda (5) - Caught out of position a number of times. Sloppy on the ball by overplaying at times. A couple of nice trademark runs through the middle, but a return to the wing needs to happen after the break.

Manolis Siopis (6) - A lot of people will discredit Siopis' work, but once again Sio had to make up for others not giving the same amount. Some decent passing plays, quietened down in the second half.

Alex Robertson (7) - Another tidy showing from Robertson. Grew into the game with some important passes. Looks to be a real coup.

Aaron Ramsey (5) - Tried to make things happen and looked fairly sharp in the first half. Looked poor in the second half, followed with an unfortunate own goal.

Yakou Meite (5) - No doubt Meite tried, but very little came from it. Not a great deal to report.

Chris Willock (5) - An extremely quiet performance. Got in some decent areas with nothing really to show for it.

Wilfried Kanga (6) - Thought Kanga's linkup play was fairly decent. Made the runs but wasn't found often enough.

Subs:

Dimitrios Goutas (6) - Solid enough when he came on. Tried to mix things up passing wise, some came off.

Ollie Tanner (6.5) - Made an immediate impact setting up a good chance, and looked a constant threat.

Rubin Colwill (6) - Tried to come and make things happen, just nothing came off.

Anwar El Ghazi (6) - Just a tidy showing, really.

Callum Robinson (N/A) - Came on too late to make an impact.

Conclusion:

A frustrating one heading into the break. A team that never look like scoring at the moment, a lot of work to be done!
