Cardiff's new manager search has come to an end, as they confirm the appointment of Brian Barry-Murphy on a three-year deal.

Brian Barry-Murphy began his playing career with boyhood club Cork City where he spent four years, before moving to Preston North End. The midfielder would be loaned out to the likes of Southend United and Hartlepool United, before making the permanent switch to Sheffield Wednesday. After a season, the Irishman joined Bury where he would spend six years, before ending his playing days at Rochdale.

Rochdale is where Barry-Murphy's coaching career started, as he took up a player/coach role for many years, before being appointed as caretaker manager in March 2019, before securing the permanent gig in April 2019.

Barry-Murphy guided The Dale to safety in his first season, but failed to do so in his second season, and resigned following the club's relegation in 2021. The Cork-born coach joined Manchester City's Elite Development side that summer.

In his first season at City, Barry-Murphy led the side to a PL2 title and also guided the side to a Round of 16 place in the UEFA Youth League. Six of his side went onto make first team debuts in the Irishman's first season in charge.

City's EDS side would retain the PL2 title in Barry-Murphy's second season. They also competed strongly again in UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup, though fell just short in latter stages. There was a sustained upward movement of talents with several players continuing to feature for the first team.

New PL2 format led to a tough season—City dropped to 23rd place (out of 26), largely due to senior-team call-ups, loans, and fixture congestion. Barry-Murphy's side were active campaigners once again in the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup, though ultimate silverware remained elusive. The Irishman would depart in the summer of 2024.

Barry-Murphy joins The Bluebirds having most recently spent a few months as first-team coach at Leicester City in the Premier League.

Welcome to the CCS, Brian!
