Cardiff City are back in Carabao Cup action as they travel to Turf Moor to face Scott Parker's Burnley.

The Opposition:
Burnley bounced straight back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season. Scott Parker's side achieved one hundred points, losing just twice all season, finishing second in the Championship..
The Clarets have been active in the summer window as they look to sustain in the Premier League. Parker has added Marcus Edwards from Sporting Lisbon, Zian Flemming from Millwall, Kyle Walker from Manchester City, Martin Dubravka from Burnley, Jaidon Anthony from Bournemouth, Bashir Humphreys from Chelsea, Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord, Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea, Jacob Bruun Larsen from VfB Stuttgart, Florentino from Benfica, Armando Broja from Chelsea, Axel Tuanzebe from Ipswich Town, Max Weiß from Karlsruher and Loum Tchaouna from Lazio.
Parker instructs his side to play with the same tactical principles regardless of the shape he employs, though his preference for a single-pivoted 4-3-3 has been evident throughout his managerial career. Parker’s sides press the opposition high up the pitch, dominate the ball for long periods and rarely go direct.
The Bluebirds:
City come into this on the back of their first defeat of the season against Bradford. The Bantams went three nil up, before Callum Robinson struck a consolation late on.
This is going to be a huge test for City. Cardiff will have to stay compact and disciplined out of possession to nullify Parker’s structured build-up, then exploit transitions quickly with Barry-Murphy’s vertical, high-tempo passing to disrupt Parker’s shape.
Opposition Player to Watch:

Jaidon Anthony has started like a house on fire in the Premier League for The Clarets after he completed a permanent move in the summer. Anthony is a quick, direct winger who thrives on stretching defences with pace, close control, and intelligent off-ball movement.
The forward started his career at Arsenal, before joining Bournemouth in 2020. Anthony made his professional debut at The Cherries in 2020. Loan moves to Weymouth, Leeds United and Burnley followed, before Anthony completed a permanent move to Burnley this summer following their promotion back to the Premier League.
Last Meeting:
Cardiff City 1-2 Burnley (2024)

These two sides met a few months ago, where City were narrowly defeated by The Clarets in March.
Burnley hit a first went in front with a quick-fire double from Josh Brownhill and Maxime Esteve, before Yousef Salech netted a header, ending The Clarets record-breaking clean sheet record. City squandered huge chances late on, particularly from Will Fish who fired wide from six-yards out. Burnley saw it out to clinch all three points.
Team News:
Cardiff City - Ronan Kpakio a doubt for The Bluebirds. Ollie Tanner and Eli King remain out.
Burnley - Lesley Ugochukwu back available for the hosts. Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts and Zeki Amdouni out for Burnley.
Preferred XI:
GK - Matt Turner
RB - Perry Ng
RCB - Will Fish
LCB - Gabriel Osho
LB - Joel Bagan
CDM - Alex Robertson
RCM - Joel Colwill
LCM - Omari Kellyman
RW - Tanatswa Nyakuhwa
LW - Isaak Davies
ST - Callum Robinson
Score Prediction:
Burnley 3-1 Cardiff City
Given the quality of Burnley's squad, they could well blow City out of the water in this one.
