Cardiff City have beaten Wrexham 2-1 thanks to goals from Yousef Salech and Will Fish.

Yousef Salech celebrating.
Yousef Salech celebrating.

Yousef Salech gave City the lead after twelve minutes. Omari Kellyman's initial effort was saved, with Callum Burton parrying the ball to Yousef Salech who tapped in from close range.

Cian Ashford had a powerful effort tipped onto the bar. Rubin Colwill's long range free-kick struck crossbar. Ronan Kpakio almost doubled City's lead as his header from close range was gathered by the goalkeeper.

Substitute Kieffer Moore equalised for the hosts. Will Fish's deflected header landed at the head of Moore who glanced home.

Cardiff were back in front in the 71st minute as Joel Bagan crossed a ball to the pack post that was met by Fish who fired home, to put City back in front and confirm The Bluebirds' place in the last eight of the cup.

Player Ratings:

Nathan Trott (7) - Should've commanded his area better for the Moore goal. Distribution was good enough. Made some decent enough saves.

Ronan Kpakio (6.5) - Started fairly well, reading the game well and working well with Kellyman. Missed a huge chance and made a handful of silly mistakes.

Will Fish (8.5) MOTM - What a time to score his first Cardiff goal. Colossal at the back throughout dominating the air. Some nice switches of play as well.

Calum Chambers (8) - Continuing his good season with another dominant display. Good on the ball. Maybe a slight question mark regarding the goal, but was really good this evening.

Joel Bagan (8.5) - Brilliant ball to find Fish. Defended really well including a clearance off the line. Good on the ball and had a great evening all-round.

Ryan Wintle (7) - Kept City ticking and was essential to their aggressive out of possession play. Good on the ball and came close once or twice.

Joel Colwill (6.5) - Typical energetic self and a big improvement on his last start. Got in some dangerous areas, and was useful out of possession.

Rubin Colwill (8.5) - Crucial to Cardiff's work in the final third. Plays a big part in the first goal with a nice ball to Kellyman. Set up some other nice chances as well. Came close with a great free-kick effort. Good out of possession as well.

Omari Kellyman (7.5) - Showed some real nice footwork and came close with a few efforts. Worked well with Kpakio. Out of possession worked really hard.

Cian Ashford (8) - A different player to the one we've watched for the last month or so. Out of possession was excellent and in possession was a threat, due to his direct and fast play. Came close to scoring as well.

Yousef Salech (8) - Right place at the right time for the goal. General linkup play was good as well, gave it a right good go. Worked really hard out of possession.

Subs:

Isaak Davies (7) - His energy definitely lifted Cardiff. Caused Wrexham issues both in and out of possession. Fought hard.

Alex Robertson (7.5) - Came on and made a real impact. A real tidy showing. Broke up play well for City and kept Cardiff ticking in the late stages of the game.

David Turnbull (6.5) - Had a quietly good impact from the bench. Got in some dangerous areas and controlled the game well. Tidy cameo.

Perry Ng (N/A)

Gabriel Osho (N/A)

Summary:

Another great showing in this competition! A real assuring and dominant victory and now into the last eight. Stick that on Disney.
