PROMOTED CITY HOST RELEGATION-BOUND VALIANTS

Promoted Cardiff City are back in the Welsh Capital as they host Jon Brady's Port Vale.

The Opposition:
It has been a disastrous campaign for Port Vale, who now mathematically can stay up but with a near impossible run-in, look bound for the fourth tier next season.
Brady sets his teams up to be compact and defensively disciplined, often prioritizing shape and organization over expansive attacking play. In possession, his sides tend to play direct and pragmatic football, looking to transition quickly and exploit spaces rather than dominate through sustained build-up.
Vale sit 23rd ahead of kick-off and could move up to 22nd with a victory. However, failure to win will confirm their relegation from League One.
The Bluebirds:
It was the perfect afternoon for City last time out as they ran out 3-1 winners over Reading, with goals from Rubin Colwill, Omari Kellyman and Perry Ng firing The Bluebirds back up to the Championship in style.
Barry-Murphy's side will look to disrupt Jon Brady’s compact block by circulating the ball quickly, stretching the pitch horizontally, and using rotations to pull defenders out of shape rather than playing into their structure. Out of possession, they’d counter the direct transitions with aggressive counter-pressing and a high defensive line to compress space, limiting the time Brady’s side has to exploit gaps.
Opposition Player to Watch:

Ethon Archer has shone in a poor Valiants side since his January move from Luton Town.
The 23 year-old is direct and quick and is tricky.
Archer has worked his way through the non-league system, turning out for the likes of Whyteleafe, Bedfont Sports, Sutton Common Rovers, Horley Town, Raynes Park Vale, Three Bridges and Torquay United. The winger would get his Football League breakthrough with Cheltenham Town. Luton Town would sign the winger in the summer of 2025, with Archer being loaned back to Cheltenham for the first half of the season, before back up to League One with Port Vale for the remainder of the season. Archer has netted three and set up one so far.
Last Meeting:
Port Vale 0-0 Cardiff City (2025)

Cardiff City were lucky to escape with a point after being outplayed in August's goalless draw at Port Vale.
George Byers and Jesse Debrah both headed close from Ronan Curtis corners, while Calum Chambers was inches away from scoring an own goal, as Cardiff claimed their first away point of the season.
Team News:
Cardiff City - Eli King, Cian Ashford and Calum Chambers remain out injured for The Bluebirds.
Port Vale - Ben Heneghan, Kyle John and George Byres out for the visitors.
Preferred XI:
GK - Harry Tyrer
RB - Ronan Kpakio
RCB - Gabriel Osho
LCB - Dylan Lawlor
LB - Calum Scanlon
CDM - Alex Robertson
CM - Joel Colwill
CAM - Robert Tankiewicz
RW - Omari Kellyman
LW - Axel Donczew
ST - Yousef Salech
Score Prediction:
Cardiff City 0-0 Port Vale
I see this being an edgy game where Cardiff go lighter, with both sides inevitably sharing the points.
