The Opposition:

Despite some poor patches this season, The Stags have shown quality in spells and are set for a mid table finish.

Clough’s teams are typically organised, hardworking, and disciplined, with a focus on defensive structure and maintaining shape. In possession, his sides favour direct, pragmatic play—pressing smartly, using wide areas, and prioritising efficiency over flair.

Mansfield sit eleventh ahead of kick-off, and could record a ninth place finish if they can beat The Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds:

City come into this one on the back of a 5-1 thumping of Northampton Town. A brace from Ollie Tanner and goals from Joel Colwill, Yousef Salech and Callum Robinson were enough to secure a final home victory of the season for The Bluebirds.

Barry-Murphy side could counter Clough’s pragmatism by dominating possession at a high tempo, using fluid rotations and width to disrupt his defensive shape and create overloads.

Opposition Player to Watch:

Jon Russell celebrating.
Jon Russell celebrating.

Jon Russell has recaptured his earlier career form since his January move to Mansfield. Russell plays as a composed, technically tidy midfielder who prioritizes ball retention and simple, effective passing to keep play flowing. He tends to read the game well, positioning himself intelligently to link defence and attack rather than relying on flair or high-risk creativity.

The midfielder is a product of the Chelsea Academy. After a loan move to Accrington, Russell departed Stamford Bridge permanently for Huddersfield Town. After eighteen months at The Terriers, Russell joined Barnsley. The 25 year-old is now on loan at Mansfield, where he's contributed with five goals and one assist this season.

Last Meeting:

Will Fish celebrating.
Will Fish celebrating.

Cardiff City cruised past Mansfield Town back in November, with The Bluebirds running out comfortable winners.

Will Fish opened the scoring with a header from a corner. Yousef Salech and Cian Ashford netted in the second half to secure all three points for City.
