Both sides had a chance each of note in the first half. Goncalo Franco found himself unmarked in the box but fired over from close range. Calum Chambers then had a volley from close range saved by Lawrence Vigouroux.
Cardiff took an early lead in the second half through Callum Robinson. Ollie Tanner fired a ball in Robinson's direction, the forward took the ball down before guiding the ball past Vigouroux.
City and Robinson were in dreamland as the striker doubled his tally and Cardiff's lead just minutes later. A loose ball from Josh Tymon fell into the path of Callum Robinson who calmly finished past Vigouroux.
The Bluebirds sealed late on with a third from Dimitrios Goutas. Alex Robertson whipped in a corner, and Dimi headed home at the front post to secure all three points on Derby Day.
Player Ratings:
Jak Alnwick (7.5) - Had very little to do, but when he was involved, he stepped up. Distribution was decent.
Andy Rinomhota (9) - Exceptional. Truly brilliant. A typical energetic performance down the right and dealt with Eom and Ronald so well. So so good.
Dimitrios Goutas (8.5) - Talk about a time to get your first of the season, and what a time it was to get it. Dominated in the air and thoroughly deserved the goal.
Jesper Daland (7) - When called into action held his own. Confident on the ball with a couple of nice pieces from deep.
Callum O'Dowda (6) - Started well before his substitution. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Calum Chambers (9) - There's not enough words to describe how good Chambers has been in midfield. Literally everywhere. Unlucky not to score. Got in and amongst in and really understood the game.
Joe Ralls (8) - A proper captain's performance for a Derby. Got in and amongst it and didn't shy away from anything. An excellent performance.
Cian Ashford (7.5) - Ran his absolute socks off down that right. Got in some great areas and put in some nice crosses.
Alex Robertson (8) - Similar to Ashford, just ran his socks off. Caught the Swansea players a couple of times as well. Excellent cross for the third.
Ollie Tanner (8) - He loves it, he absolutely loves it. Brilliant cross for Robbo's first. Worked so hard defensively as well.
Callum Robinson (9) MOTM - The best redemption you will ever see. First goal is such a good finish, and the composure for the second. Where do you want your statue Callum Robinson?
Subs:
Joel Bagan (8) - A couple of good and strong challenges to settle him into the game, then went on to have his best game in a Cardiff City shirt. Phenomenal.
Manolis Siopis (7) - A couple of good challenges late on to relieve pressure.
Rubin Colwill (6) - Not involved a great deal.
Yousef Salech (N/A) - Battled well, looking forward for what's to come.
