Cardiff took the lead in the first minute with a smart finish from Callum Robinson. Some good work from Chris Willock led to a cross from Callum O'Dowda who found an unmarked Callum Robinson who beat a full-stretched Daniel Bachmann in the Watford goal.

Watford hit back in the thirty-eighth minute as a cross found Giorgi Chakvetadze unmarked at the back post and he slotted past Jak Alnwick to level the game.

City would take the lead again before half-time, once again through Callum Robinson. Willock again with some good work and threaded a ball through to Cian Ashford, who rolled the ball across the box for Robinson to tap into an empty net.

Manolis Siopis and Ollie Tanner came close in the second half. Sio's effort from inside the box deflected just wide of the Watford goal. Tanner was set through one-on-one but was denied by Bachmann.

The hosts had a chance late on as Daniel Jebbison headed wide from point-blank range. Cardiff confirmed all three points and their first away win of the season.

Player Ratings:

JaK Alnwick (6.5) - Didn’t have a great deal to do in the City net, but when called upon did his job. Couldn’t do a great deal for the goal.

Andy Rinomhota (8) - Sensational, again. Granted Chakvetadze scored, Rino kept the talented player fairly quiet. Was strong in his duels and personal battles. Keeps getting better.

Dimitrios Goutas (8) - Had an answer for everything Watford chucked at him. Kept Bayo quiet and looked much like his old solid self again.

Jesper Daland (7.5) - Stepped up and was counted. Solid playing back on the left and was essential late on to shut out Watford.

Callum O’Dowda (8) - A brilliant cross for Robbo’s goal. Linked up well with Willock. Strong showing out of possession as well. Hopefully injury isn’t serious.

Calum Chambers (8) - The clearance king. Played the sweeper role very well, anything loose around the box was cleared by this man. Looked a new man in midfield.

Manolis Siopis (7) - Put in a real shift out of possession and covered a lot of ground. Won the ball high up the pitch and won the fouls needed and even came close to scoring!

Alex Robertson (7) - Same as Siopis really. Put in the hard yards and put in a shift playing as the more advanced midfielder.

Cian Ashford (8.5) MOTM - Best game in a Cardiff shirt. Out of possession was sensational. Brilliant assist to find Robinson as well. Put some experienced players to shame with his pure work rate.

Chris Willock (7.5) - Played big role in both goals, especially the second, a brilliant ball to find Ashford. Hopefully injury isn’t serious as well.

Callum Robinson (8.5) - A clinical performance. A brilliant finish for the first and right place right time for the second. Worked incredibly hard.

Subs:

Ollie Tanner (7) - Was a handful and got in behind well. Probably could’ve come away with a goal. Put in the graft defensively.

Joel Bagan (7) - Shut out the game well as well. Decent on the ball as well.

Rubin Colwill (N/A)

Yakou Meite (N/A)

Summary:

A massive three points for City and shows what this team is capable of doing, and that they're fighting!
