Cardiff City are through to the Round of 16 after beating Burnley this evening thanks to goals from Joel Colwill and Callum Robinson.

Cardiff City celebrating.
Cardiff City celebrating.

Cardiff dominated the opening stages of the game and got their reward on the half hour mark, as Calum Chambers cut a ball across goal for Joel Colwill to fire home from six yards out. Callum Robinson soon added a second for City, Rubin Colwill fired a ball across goal and Robinson got on the end of it to double The Bluebirds' lead.

Burnley got one back ten minutes into the second half. Nathan Trott's pass went straight to Burnley forward Marcus Edwards, who layed the ball to Zian Flemming who dispatched in fine fashion past Trott to half the deficit.

Trott was called into action in added time, making two fine saves inside the box to deny Jaydon Banel and Mike Tresor, to earn City the victory and a place in tomorrow night's draw!

Player Ratings:

Nathan Trott (7) - Did make some huge saves to keep City in it late on, as well as some big saves in the first half. Unfortunately a huge error for the goal.

Perry Ng (7.5) - Got forward really well and worked well with Ashford and Davies. Defensively fairly sound, except for one or two moments. Generally a promising showing.

Will Fish (7.5) - Generally quiet but did his required job. Some nice passes as usual and did well enough when called into action.

Calum Chambers (9) - Phenomenal. Brilliant assist for Joel Colwill, and just bossed it this evening. Read the game incredibly well and his passing range was impressive. A real encouraging showing. Made some big blocks at the back.

Joel Bagan (9) - Brilliant. Defensively sound against a real dangerous winger. Got forward really well and really should've had an assist. Another exceptional showing from Joel Bagan.

Ryan Wintle (8) - Shadowed the back four brilliantly. Passing was really good and out of possession did the dirty work. Everything you want from a number six showcased this evening.

Joel Colwill (9) MOTM - Running out of adjectives to describe Joel Colwill. Here there and everywhere this evening! Right place at the right time for the goal. Out of possession flawless, and relieved pressure for City when needed. A truly incredible performance from an incredibly talented individual.

Rubin Colwill (8) - Worked his absolute most, and his aggressive press set the tone. Tidy assist for Robinson, and generally his linkup play was impressive. Back to the Colwill we know and love.

Cian Ashford (8) - Worked exceptionally hard down the right and left, and really caused Burnley issues. Direct and aggressive. Plays a role in the second goal. Brilliant out of possession.

Isaak Davies (7.5) - Similar to Ashford in many ways. Worked incredibly hard out of possession and it caused problems. Direct and looked a threat on the break.

Callum Robinson (7.5) - Just what Robinson does, right place at the right time. Another good showing from City's forty-seven. Aggressive out of possession and generally did well linking up.

Subs:

Chris Willock (7) - Real tidy in possession, setting up a chance or two. Did really well out of possession, also.

David Turnbull (7) - Similar to Willock, tidy in possession and solid out of possession.

Omari Kellyman (6.5) - Added energy in the front line in a crucial time for City. Some nice set pieces.

Yousef Salech (6.5) - Held the ball up well and dominated in the air late on.

Tanatswa Nyakuhwa (N/A) - Despite coming on late, did really well. Relieved pressure with a late drive and did well defensively.

Summary:

Wow! What a performance. An all-round excellent showing and one to take real encouragement from.
