Cardiff City remain on the road as they travel to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to face Leam Richardson's Reading. If results go in The Bluebirds' favour, City can confirm an instant return to the Championship.

The Opposition:
After a poor start under Noel Hunt, The Royals' chose to sack the Irishman and replace him with Leam Richardson in October. After a steady rise up the table, Reading are in with an outside chance of the play-offs in the closing weeks of the season.
Richardson sets his teams up with a strong defensive structure, usually favoring compact lines, disciplined positioning, and hard work off the ball. In possession, his sides tend to play direct and pragmatic football, prioritizing quick transitions and efficiency over elaborate build-up play.
Reading sit tenth ahead of kick-off, and could move as high as seventh with a victory over Cardiff City.
The Bluebirds:
City come into this one on the back of a dramatic 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town. Ryan Ledson gave the hosts the lead in the first half, but a late equaliser from Yousef Salech meant the two sides were forced to share the point.
City can stretch Reading’s compact shape by using quick, short passing and positional rotations to pull defenders out of their structure and create gaps between the lines. By maintaining patient possession and aggressively counter-pressing after losing the ball, they can limit direct transitions and force the game into a controlled, high-tempo rhythm that disrupts Richardson’s pragmatic approach.
Opposition Player to Watch:

The Reading captain has shown his evident quality throughout the entirety of the season, and playing a huge role in why The Royals have any chance of the play-offs. Lewis Wing is a technically tidy central midfielder known for his passing range, composure on the ball, and ability to control tempo from deeper areas. He also poses a strong attacking threat with late runs into the box and powerful long-range shooting, often contributing key goals from midfield.
Wing's career started at Darlington. The midfielder spent time at a fair share if non-league sides, such as Brandon United, Newton Aycliffe, Esh Winning, Tom Law Town, Seaham Red Star, Darlington 1883 and Shildon, before joining Middlesbrough in 2017. The midfielder spent time on loan at Yeovil Town, Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday before completing a permanent move to Wycombe Wanderers. After a season and a half at The Chairboys, Wing joined Reading in the summer of 2023. The 30 year-old has contributed with twelve goals and eleven assists so far this season.
Last Meeting:
Cardiff City 2-1 Reading (2025)

City ran out winners in the reverse fixture back in October. This win took The Bluebirds back to the summit of League One.
Lewis Wing opened the scoring with a swivelling effort from long range. A quick fire double in the second half from Omari Kellyman and Yousef Salech was enough to secure all three points for Cardiff.
Team News:
Cardiff City - Dylan Lawlor to be assessed ahead of this one. Calum Chambers, Cian Ashford, Isaak Davies and Eli King remain out injured.
Reading - Top scorer Jack Marriott misses out on this one. Kamari Doyle, Ben Elliot, Randell Williams and Benn Ward also out for the hosts.
Preferred XI:
GK - Nathan Trott
RB - Perry Ng
RCB - Gabriel Osho
LCB - Dylan Lawlor
LB - Joel Bagan
CDM - Ryan Wintle
CM - Alex Robertson
CAM - Joel Colwill
RW - Omari Kellyman
LW - Chris Willock
ST - Yousef Salech
Score Prediction:
Reading 1-2 Cardiff City
I see Cardiff doing their part to get over the line, and edging past Reading in a close affair.
