Cardiff City fell to a third successive home defeat as they lost 2-0 to Ryan Lowe's Preston this afternoon.

Aaron Ramsey in action against Preston North End.

Cardiff started the brighter of the two sides. Kion Etete and Karlan Grant found space on the edge of the box, however both shot straight into the hands of Freddie Woodman.

Etete and Bowler both had half chances, before Preston took the lead through Emil Riis. A swift counter attack before a tidy finish from the Danish forward. The Lilywhites doubled their lead not long later through Ben Whiteman, the midfielder found himself in space in the box, and slotted past Jak Alnwick.

Cardiff dominated possession in the second half, but had nothing to show for it. Grant and Diedhiou both fired over from the edge of the box. And that's all she wrote.

Player Ratings:

Jak Alnwick (6) - Couldn't do a great deal about either goal as they're tidy finishes. Made a good save to deny Riis in the second half. Distribution was ok.

Perry Ng (7) - Thought he did well against a good winger in Millar. Was strong in his duels and put in some strong challenges.

Dimitrios Goutas (5) - Beaten too easily for the first goal. Didn't notice him a great deal after that, except when he almost scored goal of the season, unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Nat Phillips (7) MOTM - Thought he looked really strong. In the air he dominated. Looked quite comfortable on the ball.

Jamilu Collins (6) - Quite a quiet afternoon for JC. Didn't do anything to shout about, but also didn't do anything wrong. Decent on the ball and got in some good areas.

Manolis Siopis (6.5) - A typical energetic Sio peformance. Won his fouls and was decent on the ball. Strong in the first half, faded out in the second half.

Ryan Wintle (5) - Unfortunately for Wintle as soon as went behind it was evident we needed a creator on in his position. Set piece delivery was poor.

David Turnbull (6) - Looked tidy on the ball. Some decent ball control and some nice flicks. Nothing to shout about, a but good start.

Josh Bowler (4) - Looked really weak. Lost the majority of his duels, and it was clear the left-back had done his homework, he kept Bowler on his right and he didn't have an answer for it. Lack of urgency.

Karlan Grant (6.5) - Typical KG performance. Gave his all and got in some real good positions and was real pain for Preston, just the end product letting him down.

Kion Etete (6) - Thought he was really good in the first half. Put himself about and made some good chances for himself. Faded out in the second half.

Subs:

Aaron Ramsey (5.5) - Tried to make things happen, but it just didn't come off for Rambo. Some nice flicks. Looked slow, but the more minutes the sharper he'll get.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand (6.5) - Added energy and pace in the final third. Some nice crosses as well, a decent cameo.

Famara Diedhiou (6) - Definitely worked hard when he was on the pitch, unfortunately not much came off for him.

Rubin Colwill (5.5) - Shouldn't have been dropped to start off with, and came on probably ten minutes too late to make a real impact. Tried to make things happen but things just didn't come off for him.

Yakou Meite (N/A)

Summary:

A tough one to take as we dominated the game. Preston just taught us a lesson on how to score goals.
