The Bluebirds were beaten by Stoke City this afternoon.

Alex Robertson in action.
Alex Robertson in action.

The only real chance of the first half came for the visitors. Jordan Thompson's ambitious effort slammed the crossbar following a deflection.

Cardiff's first and only real chance of the game came late on, Rubin Colwill fired a ball across goal, and Isaak Davies fired over the open net.

The Potters punished City soon after. Ashley Phillips found with Ben Wilmot who had his close range effort saved by Ethan Horvath, however the save bounced off Will Fish into the back of the net.

Player Ratings:

Ethan Horvath (6.5) - A solid afternoon for Horvath, extremely unfortunate for the goal. Made some solid saves and commanded things fairly well.

Perry Ng (6) - Had a a handful of nervy moments, and was fortunate not to be punished. Did make some decent challenges.

Will Fish (5) - Unfortunate for the goal. Read the game quite poorly. A no-nonsense performance.

Jesper Daland (6.5) - Controlled Al-Hamadi in the first half, and showed good physicality. Commanded aerially.

Callum O'Dowda (6) - Tried to make things happen in the final third. Struggled defensively.

Alex Robertson (5) - Had a decent first half, particularly off the ball. Seemed to get overwhelmed in the second half, too many touches and wasteful. Also got lucky after the leaving the ball for Casper The Ghost.

Calum Chambers (6.5) - Tried tirelessly in and out of possession, and tried to make something happen, just didn't come off.

Cian Ashford (6) - Read the game quite well, picking up loose balls in key areas, just never looked like Ashford had the confidence to hurt Stoke.

Callum Robinson (6) - Had very little to work with. A neat performance but failed to have an effect on the game.

Will Alves (5.5) - An unlike Will Alves performance. A few poor decisions in the first half seemed to have an effect on his performance, became a very safe performance.

Yousef Salech (6) - Same as Robinson.

Subs:

David Turnbull (5) - Never the substitute for the game it was, and that became evident pretty quickly through no fault of Turnbull's. A tidy cameo but City needed pace.

Ollie Tanner (6) - Saw very little of the action. Made a key challenge late on.

Yakou Meite (5) - Offered very little.

Rubin Colwill (6.5) - An excellent ball to find Davies.

Isaak Davies (4.5) - Had to score.

Summary:

Bleak. Very very bleak.
