Cardiff City have advanced to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 win over Sheffield United this evening.

Cian Ashford celebrating.
Cian Ashford celebrating.

Cardiff dominated early on with two glorious chances falling to Kion Etete. The first chance came from a Rubin Colwill cross, Etete headed into the gloves of Adam Davies. The second chance came after some good work from Cian Ashford who layed the ball across the box up, but after a mix up between Colwill and Etete, the ball eventually fell to Etete who cannoned wide.

City did eventually take the lead through Ashford. The forward swooped in and ran one-on-one and beat fellow Welshman Davies to give Cardiff a lead in the tie.

The second half didn't bring much excitement or tempo, with Ethan Horvath making quite a few routine saves. The Blades' best chance came late on, as Harrison Burrows struck the post with a long-range effort.

The Bluebirds held on and advance to the Fourth Round.

Player Ratings:

Ethan Horvath (8.5) - Horvath really needed that. Made some important saves in important moments of the game. Distribution was varied.

Ronan Kpakio (6) - Struggled to find rhythm in the first half, then picked up a kick and struggled from then on. Held his own against an energetic Brewster.

Jesper Daland (8) - Won the physical battle against One, and controlled things well at the back. A good and tidy performance.

Will Fish (7.5) - Solid return to the side. Looked quite tidy and battled well. Sign of things to come.

Joel Bagan (8) - Made some key blocks and interceptions and kept the ball well. Went up another gear when he stepped up into the midfield.

Ollie Tanner (7.5) - Put in a graft against an energetic Brooks and defended very well. Got forward fairly good.

Perry Ng (6) - The midfield test didn't really work, got caught out several times. Improved when he moved back to right-back.

Joe Ralls (8) - No better way to top off a 400th appearance. Some great deliveries from set pieces and dead ball situations. Battled like his typical self. Cardiff City through and through.

Rubin Colwill (7) - Found himself in a lot of space fairly often with varied success. A couple of wrong decision sin the final third, but looked energetic and caused problems.

Cian Ashford (8.5) MOTM - Improving every week, and thoroughly deserved the goal tonight. Worked his socks off and took his goal really well.

Kion Etete (5.5) - Probably could've come away with two goals tonight, probably give the benefit of the doubt as Etete has been out so long. Some nice interplay.

Subs:

Tom Davies (7) - Got caught out once, but other than that was really solid when he came on.

Luke Pearce (6.5) - Worked his socks off when he came on. Got in some great positions and held the ball up well.

Alex Robertson (6.5) - Tidy cameo.

Andy Rinomhota (N/A)

Manolis Siopis (N/A)

Summary:

Four unbeaten and learning to win ugly when needed. Nice to see the young guns given a run out.
