BLUEBIRDS OUT FOR FIRST WIN

Updated: Aug 29
Cardiff City are back in league action as they host Chris Wilder's Sheffield United.

The Opposition:
It was a disappointing 25/25 campaign for the Blades. After a disastrous start under Rubén Sellés, Chris Wilder replaced the Spaniard in September, with Sheffield United rock bottom. Wilder guided the Blades to a 13th-place finish.
Sheffield United have had a quiet summer due to ongoing issues with their ownership, meaning just two players have signed at the time of writing. Matt Doherty has joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as the exciting Romelle Donovan, who has joined on loan from Brentford.
Wilder favours an intense, physical and direct style, with his teams typically built around a back three and aggressive wing-backs. His sides look to press high, compete strongly in duels and attack quickly after winning possession. In possession, Wilder encourages direct passing, early crosses and attacking transitions rather than prolonged spells of possession. Defensively, his teams are well-organised and aggressive, aiming to disrupt opponents through pressure and physicality.
The Bluebirds:
City come into this one on the back of a defeat in the Carabao Cup against Norwich City. Yousef Salech's late strike was just a consolation as the Bluebirds were knocked out in the Second Round of the competition.
The Bluebirds could counter Wilder’s aggressive approach by using patient build-up and quick rotations to draw the press forward, creating spaces behind the wing-backs. Cardiff could then exploit those gaps with switches of play, wide overloads and direct runs beyond the back three. Maintaining a strong rest defence and immediate counter-press would also be vital to prevent Wilder’s side turning turnovers into dangerous transitions.
Opposition Player to Watch:

Callum O'Hare is the obvious talisman in the Blades' setup, boasting plenty of experience at the top end of the Championship. O'Hare is a technically gifted, energetic attacking midfielder who thrives between the lines, using close control, quick combinations and intelligent movement to create chances. He is also an aggressive presser who can carry the ball forward and contribute goals and assists from advanced midfield positions.
The 28-year-old is a product of the Aston Villa academy. After nine senior appearances for Villa, O'Hare joined Carlisle United on loan. Then Coventry City on loan in the following season. The midfielder would make the permanent switch to the Sky Blues in the summer of 2020. O'Hare spent four years at Coventry, featuring 142 times, netting eighteen and setting up twenty-three. The Englishman joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2024. In his first two seasons as a Blade, O'Hare has featured ninety-seven times, netting fourteen and assisting thirteen.
Last Meeting:
Sheffield United 2-0 Cardiff City (2025)

City's defeat the last time these two sides met sealed the fate of Ömer Riza, with the Bluebirds being convincingly beaten by the Blades, essentially sealing their relegation fate.
Gustavo Hamer opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, before Ben Brereton Díaz added a second just before full-time.
Team News:
Cardiff City - Cardiff hopeful of having Gabriel Osho back available. Krystian Bielik available for debut. Will Fish, Calum Chambers and Dylan Lawlor remain out for the Bluebirds.
