Cardiff City ran out 2-0 winners against Bristol Rovers this evening.
Cardiff's first real chance came after half an hour, Alex Robertson was found unmarked in the box, however was denied by a block from Jake Garrett.
The Bluebirds continued to dominate with the introductions of Michael Reindorf, Kieron Evans and Ollie Tanner adding more pace to City, something Rovers struggled to deal with.
Tanner went close not long after his introduction, as the winger turned his defender and fired towards goal, however Griffiths pushed his effort wide.
Cardiff would take the lead not long afterwards, with a bullet header from Mark McGuinness from an Ollie Tanner corner.
City almost swiftly doubled their lead, as Reindorf found Rinomhota in the box, but the midfielder was denied at close range.
Rubin Colwill would add a second late on, as he found himself on the end of an inch-perfect cross from Kieron Evans. The two goals were enough to see Erol Bulut's men advance to the next round.
Player Ratings:
Jak Alnwick (7) - Made a couple of neat saves. Distribution was impressive, an all-round calm and good game for City's skipper for this evening.
Ronan Kpakio (7.5) - The 17 year-old gave account of himself both defensively and offensively. Held his own against the experienced Scott Sinclair. A good burst of pace going forward. A really encouraging showing.
Mark McGuinness (7) - After a sloppy first half performance, Macca picked it up in the second half, also netting his first of the season. Nice to see him back in action.
Joel Bagan (7) - Bagan mainly impressed on the ball, with some neat passes. Also did his job defensively. Some good attacking runs as well.
Luey Giles (7) - A mature performance from Giles. Did what was necessary defensively and offensively. Worked well with Colwill.
Andy Rinomhota (7.5) - That is the best I've seen Rinomhota play for a long time. Energetic and relentless. Was nice to see him attempt to get forward as well.
Eli King (7) - Another mature showing. Played his role to perfection, offered to the side in attack and defensively. Worked well with Colwill.
Alex Robertson (7) - A tidy debut for Robertson. Picked some nice passes and got in some good areas. Unlucky not to score.
Raheem Conte (6) - A frustrating evening for Conte. Tried to get forward but that final ball just wouldn't fall for him. Some tidy defensive work.
Rubin Colwill (8) MOTM - Everything positive came through this man. Glad Colwill got the goal he worked so hard for. Especially when moved centrally, Rovers didn't have an answer to it.
Wilfried Kanga (6) - A couple of nice link up bits with Robertson. Didn't get a great deal of service.
Subs:
Michael Reindorf (7.5) - Not sure what more you can ask for out of a thirty minute cameo. Reindorf was excellent, and showed what he's about. Some nice linkup play and fast feet.
Ollie Tanner (7.5) - Tanner was great as well in his half an hour on the pitch. A great assist. Nice to see Tanner being direct and beating a man.
Kieron Evans (7) - Created a handful of chances, none better than the excellent ball to Colwill. Encouraging performance.
Malachi Fagan-Walcott (6.5) - Did what was needed. Tidy debut.
Conclusion:
A night to show off the exceptional academy we currently have at our disposal. A thoroughly enjoyable watch.
