Cardiff City have advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup as they blew away fellow Championship side Birmingham City.

Rubin Colwill, Ryan Wintle and Kion Etete celebrating.

Summary

Cardiff City took a swift lead, as Ryan Wintle found Karlan Grant on the left who beat his man with ease and found an unmarked Rubin Colwill in the box, and he calmly finished to put The Bluebirds in the lead at St. Andrews.

Birmingham thought they were level as Juninho Bacuna dispatched an inch-perfect free-kick, however, a world-class save from Alex Runarsson kept The Bluebirds in front.

Cardiff controlled the game for the rest of the half enjoying 70% possession going into the interval. The Bluebirds enjoyed more of the same in the second half, and they got their reward as Ryan Wintle made it two in two in the 68th minute as Ollie Tanner found himself free on the right-hand side, he found Colwill in the box and a smart flick saw the ball land at Wintle's feet, as he cooly dispatched to double The Bluebirds lead.

However, The Bluebirds didn't have much time to enjoy the two-goal lead as Scott Hogan found himself in behind the Cardiff defense, and placed the ball in-between Alex Runarsson's legs to give Blues hope with 20 minutes remaining.

Then, after good work down the left from Kieron Evans, Kion Etete was at the back post to confirm The Bluebirds place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Cardiff will found out their round three opponents tomorrow evening.

Cardiff will now travel to Ipswich in their last game before the international break.
