Cardiff City were beaten by Sheffield United this evening.

Will Fish in action.
Will Fish in action.

The Blades took the lead just after the half an hour mark. Tyrese Campbell's deflected effort fell into the path of Gustavo Hamer who flicked past Ethan Horvath.

The hosts should've doubled their tally just before the hour mark. Harrison Burrows' powerful effort was saved by Horvath from close range.

City's best chance came through Will Fish. David Turnbull found the defender in the box who fired over from close range.

Sheffield United made City pay as Ben Brereton Diaz netted late on. Kieffer Moore pounced on an Andy Rinomhota mistake, with Moore's deflected fell to Brereton Diaz who fired past Horvath from close range.

Cardiff slip to 23rd as their Championship days begin to number.

Player Ratings:

Ethan Horvath (6.5) - Made one key save to deny Burrows. Can't do a great deal for either. Distribution was alright.

Andy Rinomhota (4.5) - Was having a solid afternoon, defended fairly well but ultimately an inexcusable mistake lets him down.

Will Fish (6) - Defended fairly well and strong aerially. Missed City's only real clear-cut chance.

Calum Chambers (6.5) - No-nonsense defensive performance. One or two nice pieces on the ball. Caught out once or twice but made up for it.

Callum O'Dowda (6.5) - A quieter evening for O'Dowda. Got up and down well and strong in his battles.

Ollie Tanner (6.5) - Did his defensive duties very well. Tried to drive the team forward, as well. Also unearthed the longest throw I've seen all season from out of nowhere.

Alex Robertson (7) MOTM - Properly got in and amongst it. Drove the team forward and showed quality on the ball receiving from deep.

Sivert Mannsverk (6) - Started fairly strong, but fizzled out a bit. Caught once or twice on the ball also.

Will Alves (6) - Did his defensive duties very well, also. However, had a few chances he simply had to do better with.

Yousef Salech (5.5) - Too slow and passive on the ball. Also had a couple of wasted half chances.

Yakou Meite (6) - Worked hard and won a good amount in the air. Also squandered a handful of half chances.

Subs:

Chris Willock (6.5) - Busy cameo and looked to make things happen. No one on the end of one or two dangerous balls.

Cian Ashford (6.5) - Same as Tanner (minus the long throws).

David Turnbull (6.5) - Grew into the game and made City's biggest chance. Solid defensively.

Rubin Colwill (N/A)

Joel Bagan (N/A)

Summary:

In the words of Ian Beale, "I have nothing left".
